At times I try to get people to think outside of what Christendom has taught in the past and is teaching now.
Most Christians teach that we need to keep 9 of the 10 Commandments and that we are no longer held to The Law (instructions). Also taught is that the 10 have been taken down to these two. “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37 NIV. Jesus- Yeshua said, “All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:40 NIV. This commandment is actually from the law (Torah). Let’s look at that.
“You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.” Leviticus 19:18 NASB.
Everything in the new portion of your Bible comes from the Old portion.
Jesus-Yeshua went on to say, ” …until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” Matt. 5:18 NIV.
But people remove what they want and keep what they want. I call it copy and paste theology or cherry picking.
Jesus/ Yeshua said, in the verse above, that all the law (Torah) and the prophets, hang on those two verses. Picture a towel rack, a curtain rod, a coat hanger or coat rack–can you hang a coat on air?
I find it interesting when I see Christians posting articles on social media from The Law to make sure a certain group, such as homosexuals, knows what they think about them. When I make this type of remark many think I am giving people a free pass to sin, or I haven’t studied the New Testament, or the book of Hebrews and so forth. They quote Paul and check to see if I agree with Paul’s writings because they want to make sure I am not saying that this sin is okay, even though it doesn’t fit in the 10 boxes.
There is no 10 commandment that says, “A man shall not lie with a man.” Then the rebuttal is but Paul said this and that. Yes, he did and he also said, “So then, THE LAW IS HOLY, and the commandment is HOLY, righteous and good.” Romans 7:12 NIV. Once again Paul was quoting the law (Torah.) ” A man shall not lie with a man,” comes from the law (Torah). Law is not a good translation because the Torah is the instructions for a blessed life.
There is no 10 commandment that says don’t sleep with animals, no, that’s part of the law too.
“‘Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it.” Leviticus 18:23 NIV.
I feel sorry for any animal that has had to deal with this abuse. but since this is the law and we are no longer to keep the law, we can throw this out right? No.
But many say, the law is about stoning people to death right? Or is that the curse of the law? Is that the moral law? Think, ponder and ask questions when you read The Bible. What is a three strand cord? etc. I’m not asking these for an answer, but for you to meditate on them.
I hear this from time to time, “Tekoa you have gotten involved in some Jewish cult and we are not Jewish. You are part of the Hebrew roots possibly and I have been warned about them. No, this is not completely true. So back to the law (Torah), which some may think I broke Saturday by selling five books before the sun set. Although, all monies goes to the poor or back into the ministry. “Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy.” This is one of the Ten and actually also part of the law found in Exodus 20:8, Leviticus 19:3. Genesis 2:2 and so on.
Let’s look at the law (Torah) again and moral issues.
The penalty for homosexual acts (Lev. 20:13) was no more severe than the punishments for adultery, incest, or for cursing one’s parents. Even a man who had sex with his wife while she was having a ‘period,’ was to be “cut off from among the people.” Ouch. And Remember, breaking the Sabbath was a death sentence. So, let’s look at Lot and ponder cake baking.
Have you ever studied Lot’s behavior when the men beat his door down to rape the men (angels) who had come?
“Bring them out to us! We want to have sex with them!” Lot went out to them and stood in the doorway, closing the door behind him, and said, “Please, my brothers, don’t do such a wicked thing. Look here, I have two daughters who are virgins. Please, let me bring them out to you, and you can do with them what seems good to you; but don’t do anything to these men, since they are guests in my house.” Genesis 19:5-8.
One commentary says this,
“Lot would never give over his daughters to the people of Sodom and he understands that these people have no interest in his daughters. Lot’s offer is meant to be offensive and indeed the people of the town immediately recognize that they are being criticized – “This one fellow came in to sojourn and he will need play the judge [he’s judging us]?” This attack by Lot on standard immigration procedure in Sodom makes him the target of their rage in the same way the illegal aliens were the target just a few verses earlier: “now will we deal worse with thee, than with them.”
The Prophets and Peter compare the nation of Israel to Sodom in Isaiah 1:9-10, 3:9, Jeremiah 23:14, Ezekiel 16:41-56 and 2nd Peter 2:7.
Sodom and Gomorrah were judged because of grave sin. Genesis 18:20 says, “And the Lord said, ‘The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave.'” Indeed, not even ten righteous people could be found in the city. However, there was more going on than sodomy, rape, and murder.
“‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.” Ezekiel 16:49 NIV. So much to ponder when we begin to look at sin and Hashem compares His own people to Sodom.
One of the other sins in the Bible was witchcraft, astrology, and fortune telling. They were commanded to stone them to death
“A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads.'” Leviticus 20:27 NIV.
I see through my newsfeed on a daily basis items where you have to enter your birthdate or name to find out something about your personal character. I get chain letters that say pass this prayer to 10 people and get a blessing and so on and so forth. Is that similar? Are we also guilty of sins like sexual lust, building kingdoms here on earth where thieves break in and steal, gossip, backbiting, and pride?
I think we all need to study more, think about our own personal sins more, and apply the law of LOVE more. “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” John 13:35 NIV.
