There is a white rhino, named Sudan, in Kenya at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy that is guarded by men with weapons, twenty-four hours a day. The animal is equipped with radio transmitters and dispatches incognito rangers who gather intelligence on poachers in the area.
Sudan is the last living white male on the planet. He is a rare gem. Whenever something or someone is precious and has great worth, they need to be guarded. We are told to guard His instructions, His Sabbaths, our hearts, and more. But before we get into this blog, I want to present a few questions: Who or what are we guarding? Who is so precious that we cover their sins even when they wrong us? Not that we would allow dishonor or abuse, but we have grace. Who do we deem so valuable that we shield them from harm, hurt, and dishonor? Do we honor the teachers He has placed on our paths or do we look for only where we believe they may err?
So, while pondering this topic, I asked myself, “what is so special about this rhino that it needs guarded 24/7?” Yes, of course, it’s the last one, but what does a rhino have that poachers deem costly? What do you have? What did David have when Saul chased him all over the hills?
According to journalist, Faith Karimi, CNN, “Rhinos are targeted by poachers, fueled by the belief in Asia that their horns cure various ailments. Experts say the rhino horn is becoming more lucrative than drugs.”
There are four horns on the brazen altar. This is the heart of the Temple area. The very place the altar was positioned is said to be the place where the first man Adam was created. The brazen altar takes care of our sin nature before we journey deeper into The Tabernacle. Prior to the High Priest getting to the table of bread, the light of the menorah, the sweet smelling incense, the mercy seat, and the Ark of the Covenant, every bit of flesh had to be burnt up on the altar. (Lev. 6:5) “And a fire shall burn there on the altar constantly; it shall not be extinguished.”
The Bride gives themselves as the ‘whole’ offering. Yeshua died to cover us and spare us from death.
These four horns of the brazen altar is also a picture of how Our Father will gather us from the four corners of the earth.
“And He will lift up a standard for the nations And assemble the banished ones of Israel, And will gather the dispersed of Judah From the four corners of the earth.” Isaiah 11:12.
His horns are blown on Shabbat, and His Feast days. In Biblical times, this horn was filled with oil and poured out to anoint kings, such as David. What a beautiful day when Our Messiah Yeshua returns to set up His Kingdom with power. We are seeing and getting a taste of this right now. Every time another family comes into the fold with eyes to see and ears to hear, we have Messiah. His horn cures all ailments. May we be filled and full of His Light, Messiah in us–the hope of Glory.
Whether we are aware or not–every day we guard things. Sometimes we guard things that we see as valuable, but they are only material possessions. Thieves can break in and steal. Possessions rust– they depreciate–they may even be costly heirlooms, but Yeshua said don’t store up treasures here.
Some people have alarms and security systems to guard their precious belongings. Others buy guard dogs and guns. We try and guard our children from predators, falseness, tainted foods, and corruption. When criminals are caught we place them behind bars to guard our streets from danger. We buy health insurance, life insurance, fire, flood, and tornado insurance, but have we placed certain things in a wrong order of worth? Shouldn’t certain things trump our financial investments?
How does the enemy get through our armor, guard dogs, alarm systems, and walls of protection? How does a door get left open a crack? How does a little yeast permeate the whole batch of dough? I’m going to give a couple examples before moving on. Take a husband and wife who are constantly belittling each other in front of their children, those children grow up to disrespect one or both parents. They mimic what they hear.
I once heard a father tell his son, “You don’t talk to my wife like that. She may be your mother, but she is my bride.” The father taught his son a great lesson on respect. But look who he had to guard his bride from? Her own seed. With careful instructions, children learn to honor their parents and in return they are promised long life.
I had a dream recently with a tree in it. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day outside, but soon grew dark. A friend there with me, noticed a HUGE spider at the top of a tree. It was as large as a flying saucer. It had teeth and eyes that wanted to destroy us. We could feel a strong spirit of evil as wings ejected and began to fly towards us. Yes, our family trees can destroy us if we allow them to. We have to fight those spirits that have been passed down. Cain killed his own brother due to jealousy. The first family had issues from the get go. So do ours. But I believe it is time to break these cords of death over our trees. We can spear that spider and destroy it.
When things get out of order, and we do not follow the pattern, we end up with a mess. You can’t get to the Holy of Holies without getting on the altar. There is an order to things. If we place our parents above our spouses, we disobey His Word, for He said a man was to leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife. If we place our children above our spouses, again, out of order. Many times after divorce or separation, parents fear losing their relationship with their children and try and be a friend and not a parent. Its fear induced.
If we place our occupation above our spouses and children, and especially our Father, this too is out of order. If we do not guard His Sabbath, we do not have rest. His perfect shalom.
The Father placed two angels with flaming swords to guard the tree of life—His Torah.
“A prayer recited when the Torah scrolls are placed back into the ark in a Synagogue service, is Etz Chayim He, “It is a Tree of Life:”
It is a tree of life to those who take hold of it, and those who support it are praiseworthy. Its ways are ways of pleasantness and all its paths are peace. Bring us back Lord to You, and we shall come, renew our days as of old.” For more click here.
He tells us in Proverbs 4 to guard our hearts and to guard His instructions, and they in return will guard us.
“Children, listen to the discipline of a father, And give attention to know understanding;
For I gave you good instruction: Do not forsake my Torah.
For I was my father’s son, Tender and the only one in the eyes of my mother,
Then he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast my words; Guard my commands, and live.
“Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, and do not turn away From the words of my mouth.
“Do not leave her, and let her guard you; Love her, and let her watch over you.” 4:2-6.
Could there be something so precious inside of you that needs guarded too? Costly oil? What about your spouse?
He goes on to say, “My son, listen to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.
Let them not depart from your eyes; Guard them in the midst of your heart;
For they are life to those who find them, And healing to all their flesh.
Watch over your heart with all diligence, For out of it are the sources of life.” 4:20-23 ISR.
In 2003, over a 100 million dollars’ worth of jewels were stolen from the Antwerp Diamond center. How much protection do you think one of the largest diamonds would need?
“The vault was thought to be impenetrable. It was protected by 10 layers of security, including infrared heat detectors, Doppler radar, a magnetic field, a seismic sensor, and a lock with 100 million possible combinations.”
Wisdom and understanding are worth more than diamonds!
In this day and time, respect and covering that which is most important seems to have been placed lower on our importance list. Things are out of order.
“How blessed is the man who finds wisdom
And the man who gains understanding.
For her profit is better than the profit of silver
And her gain better than fine gold.
She is more precious than jewels;
And nothing you desire compares with her.
Long life is in her right hand;
In her left hand are riches and honor.
Her ways are pleasant ways
And all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her,
And happy are all who hold her fast.”
If your house was on fire what would you grab? If you had been given months to live, who would you spend time with? Time is a precious diamond, but we often waste it. We must guard His Word and hide it in our hearts, we must guard our tongues, our hearts, our spouses, our children, our time, our Spiritual leaders, and yes, our temples. It’s a 24/7 job. An army guards one rhino. We are an army when we gather together in unity and strengthen one another in love.
“Then I passed by you and saw you, and behold, you were at the time for love; so I spread My skirt over you and covered your nakedness. I also swore to you and entered into a covenant with you so that you became Mine,” declares the Lord GOD. “Then I bathed you with water, washed off your blood from you and anointed you with oil.” Ezekiel 16:8-9.
